General Information

If you are interested in playing pennant, please contact the responsible person named below.

Men’s and women’s pennant enjoys a rich history within Victorian golf, with both competitions dating back over 100 years. Today, in all divisions of men’s pennant, each club is represented by a seven man team, whilst the women’s team and junior teams are represented by seven (Div. 1) and five players for all other teams.

Within all pennant levels, the competing clubs are divided into divisions with a promotion/relegation system in operation to determine their composition for the following season.

The men’s pennant season runs for eight weeks with “round robin” match play contests between clubs at one venue in each division every week. This year however, the men’s Division 1 team are trialing a new ‘home and away’ format. At the conclusion of the contests, the two leading teams in each division compete in finals to decide the divisional flags.

The women’s season is played over seven weeks, with the winning team in Divisions 2 onwards determined by points allocated for wins during the playing season. Division 1 will be decided when the top two teams play off in a final at the end of the season. Today, as has always been the way, both men and women’s pennant matches are fiercely contested, with all players representing their club with passion and pride. If you’re interested in playing pennant or assisting, please contact your Captains, Jenny Carden or Kirsty Hutton.

Sunday Pennant (26 April & 19 April)

Sun, Smiles, and Success at Curlewis

The sun was out in force at Curlewis Golf Club for Sunday Pennant’s Week 5 when the team competed against an always-welcoming Barwon Valley side.

Before the serious business began, the team was in high spirits—even taking a moment to emulate the “Fab Four” in an Abbey Road-style stroll before heading to the first tee. That positive energy clearly paid off; every single player started the day by thumping their drive straight down the middle of the fairway.

Women;s Sunday Pennant R5

With stunning views across Port Phillip Bay to the You Yangs, a gentle breeze, and a beautifully groomed course, it was a day to remember for the Barwon Heads contingent.

The Results

It was a dominant showing for the team, coming away with 4 wins and one halved match.

  • Jo Carden (Player 1): Led the charge with a strong performance.
  • Claudia Campbell (Player 2): Maintained the momentum for the middle order.
  • Anne Taylor (Player 3): Showed great composure under pressure.
  • Toni Hogg (Player 4): Supported by her caddy, Amanad Derham, Toni secured a vital result.
  • Philippa Kelly (Player 5): With caddy Sarah Roe by her side, Philippa rounded out a stellar team effort.

Looking Ahead

The win at Curlewis keeps up our momentum. While emulating last season’s ultimate triumph may be a tall order this year, we know better than anyone that in this game, the competition is never over until the final putt drops!

Today, Week 6 we hosted Pennant at home and next week’s game to be played at Angelsea Golf Club is the season final in the seven club round robin.

Many thanks to team members Philippa, Anne, Claudia, Jo and Jane for hosting Sunday’s matches. The teams always enjoy playing our magnificent course and the autumn weather made today even more enjoyable.
